Aim
The aim of this activity is to ensure:
- consistent implementation of and compliance with the Primary Production and Processing Standard for Eggs and Egg Products
- a national approach to egg recalls.
This activity supports Australia’s Foodborne Illness Reduction Strategy 2018-2021+.

This work was agreed to by the:
- food ministers at their June 2018 meeting
- Food Regulation Standing Committee at its May 2018 meeting.
Status
The aims for this activity have been achieved with the completion of:
- revisions to the national compliance plan, now known as the guidance tool for the eggs and egg products primary production and processing standard
- the Guidance for Food Regulatory Agencies – the Recall of Shell Eggs.
Related information
Food safety risks related to eggs and egg products have been further addressed through a review of production and processing requirements under Proposal P1060 Egg Food Safety and Primary Production Requirements. Guidance material to support compliance with the new requirements is being developed by ISFR.
