Our Strategic Focus
Our vision
- Our vision is for our communities to:
- have a safe and healthy food supply
- be able to make informed choices about their food
- benefit from thriving food economies.
Our communities are the people of Australia and New Zealand. We pay our respects to the Indigenous people of these lands and acknowledge the vast cultural and ethnic diversity present in our two countries.
Our strategic outcomes
Over the long term, we will work together to achieve 4 outcomes. We will prioritise work under each of the 4 strategic outcomes every 3 years in a way that is evidenced-based, transparent and inclusive of stakeholders.
The following outcomes are based on our vision for our communities and are to be enduring over time with activities reset triennially. This will allow us to develop the work plan in a way that will improve the system’s ability to track and monitor implementation. It will also allow the system to keep stakeholders better informed of future priorities.
See the Strategic Plan 2025–2028 for further details about the strategic outcomes for the food regulation system.
Development of the strategic plan and strategic outcomes
The strategic plan and outcomes were developed following commitment by food ministers to implement a new strategic planning cycle under the previous system priority to maintain a strong, robust and agile food regulation system (also known as Priority 3). The strategic plan and outcomes were informed by stakeholder feedback and a horizon scan of trends, opportunities and risks within the food system. Food ministers approved the Strategic Plan 2025 – 2028 in January 2025.
