Optimise the Food Regulation Policy Framework

Aim

This project aims to refine and optimise the food regulation policy framework and will consider opportunities to:  

  • improve timeliness and reduce duplication
  • provide clarity about whether and how a Policy Guideline should be developed when progressing an issue through the Policy Framework.  
  • increase consistent and complete use of the framework.

Leads

On behalf of the Food Regulation Standing Committee (FRSC), the lead for this activity is the Australian Government Department of Health, Disability and Ageing.

Authorisation

This work was agreed to by FRSC at its June 2025 meeting.

Status

Review of the current policy framework, including consultation with government users of the framework has been completed. A revised policy framework is being prepared.
