As part of the activity to review the FSANZ Act, a draft impact analysis has been developed.

This impact analysis looks at ways the Australian Government can reform the Food Standards Australia New Zealand Act 1991

This consultation is seeking your views on the 2 options in the impact analysis:

  • Option 1: Retain the status quo.
  • Option 2: Modernise regulatory settings.

Why the government is consulting

In November 2019, the food ministers endorsed an ambitious plan to reform the joint food regulation system to keep it strong, robust and agile.

The FSANZ Act review supports this reform agenda. The review started in July 2020 and includes a comprehensive examination of the:

  • effectiveness of the FSANZ Act
  • related operations and responsibilities of FSANZ.

Outcomes

The Australian Government will analyse the submissions to inform a final impact analysis. This will inform any changes to the FSANZ Act.
