Theory paper on contemporary regulatory models

This paper makes 7 recommendations to modernise the food regulation system. These recommendations reflect current thinking and practices.

The Food Regulation Standing Committee (FRSC) engaged the Prism Institute in Canada to develop this independent paper. It does not represent the views of the FRSC members.

The institute conducted:

  • a high-level review of the food regulation system
  • an electronic survey to get feedback on the system from regulators.

Its recommendations are for the:

  • design of the regulatory framework
  • delivery of the framework by regulators.

Some recommendations address consistency in decision making.

This paper is part of a body of work to ensure consistency across the bi-national food regulatory system.
